Course Outline:
The Year 12 Course involves the study of Accounting Theory, the preparation and analysis of accounting records for single proprietorship business and deals with the control procedures within business to ensure that fraud and embezzlement does not occur.
An understanding of the basis of double entry book-keeping, presentation of accounting statements of small businesses, an understanding of simple accounting systems for the control of cash, stock and debtors and the interpretation of accounting statements is all part of this specially designed Accounting Course. It is necessary to do this course if contemplating studying Accounting in Year 13.
A small component of the course will involve a study of economic concepts particularly useful for students considering taking Year 13 Economics.
COMPUTER MODULE – Part of the course content is taught using the computer accounting software “Mind Your Own Business”. Previous computer knowledge is not essential.

These subjects can be continued in Year 13 for the Level 3 qualification, or at University as part of a Commerce Degree, preparation for the New Zealand Society of Accountants or as a credit towards a National Certificate in Accounting studied through the Technical Institute of New Zealand.
