Entry Requirements:
Pre entry tests will determine entry level. Students will be advised of the appropriate course after initial assessment. The school reserves the right to adapt a student’s course based on English competency, background and requirements.
Various tertiary courses and careers have a minimum qualification in English as an entry requirement for all students but for international students specific additional requirements may be made by courses with limited intakes.

Course Outline:
ESOL 1: Is a course that links the growing use of all English strands – reading, writing, speaking, listening into
thematic units based around :-
Adjustment to NZ life and culture
Education in a NZ school
Own profile
Central Otago
Celebrations
Sport and Entertainment
Art and Music
Leisure
Friendship
ESOL 2 (= IELTS): Is a course that is linked to the academic aspirations of International Students intending to study in an English speaking country through the medium of the English language.
It is a course where all English strands – reading, writing, speaking and listening are developed in order that students may attempt the IELTS exam and Level 2 English literacy requirements. Specific, selected course material will focus students on skills required for this.
Broadly they cover:-
Writing for academic occasions and on world issues
Reading and interpreting academic texts
Speaking about ‘self’ and situations linked to the world, their country, their life and study plans
Listening to texts linked to University life and world issues
Assessment Outline:
Both courses have an internally assessed component. Both have external International exams.
Where Does It Lead?
ESOL 1:Leads to a regular English Course and/or ESOL 2 (IELTS)
ESOL 2:Leads to University Entrance requirements being met. Entry into a Foundation Year course, direct entry into university.
