Entry Requirements:

This Year 13 Economics Course is designed for all students whether they have previously studied this subject or not. Students who have good NCEA Level 2 grades should cope adequately with the requirements of this subject.  Although not essential, knowledge of basic mathematical concepts is desirable.  The majority of students who have done this course in the past have done so successfully without having done it at a previous level.


Course Outline:

A study of Economics at this level is based on theoretical concepts and how these are applied to many economic and political decisions.  Students will gain from this course a greater awareness of the economic system they live in, how it operates and some of the reasons behind the problems which New Zealand now faces.  It will enable students to become more informed as members of their own society.

            Resource Allocation via the Market System

            Resource Allocation via the Public Sector

            Aggregate (Total) Economic Activity and Policy
