LEVEL 1: National Certificate in mathematics

Curriculum Level: 5/6


Course Length: Year One of a two year course.

Total Credits: 26  (All Unit Standards)

Special Costs: $11.00 for a write on homework book.


Entry Requirements: Students must have completed their study of Mathematics at Year 10.


Course Outline:

A practical based course consolidating the work of Years 9 and 10 Mathematics.  This course is intended for students who would benefit from developing a more sound foundation in basic mathematical skills.


Assessment Outline:

This course is internally assessed by Unit Standards.  There is no external assessment in this course.


Out of Class Expectations and Commitments

Students are expected to do 10-15 minutes of homework in their write-on homework book each night.


Where Does it Lead?

This course leads on to 12 Maths 3 where students will complete their National Certificate in Mathematics.  Alternatively, this could lead on to a Year 11 Achievement Standard course. 

It is also useful for vocational or practical areas that require a base level of mathematics.
